Whether it is your first visit to Montgomery County or you're a seasoned visitor to the area, there are plenty of winter activities to keep you entertained during the colder months. Don't let the temperatures keep you indoors; get out and explore the adventures that await you here.

Take a look at our suggestions of things to do in winter here in Valley Forge and Montco -

Let's Go Ice Skating

Lace up your skates at Oaks Center Ice, the region's most popular indoor skating venue featuring three NHL-sized rinks. Sign up for hockey or ice skating lessons and show off your moves on the rink. Later, warm up with a wintry treat from the snack bar. Bring your own skates or rent a pair upon arrival, and be sure to inquire about the center's public skating sessions - perfect for families ready to make a few laps (and memories) together on the ice.

If you prefer to be outside, visit Spring Mountain Adventures - home to an outdoor skating rink with public skating sessions. Skate rentals and lessons are also available.

Popular Sledding Spots in Montgomery County

Grab your sled and get ready for adventures at one of the area's many parks. Set out on adventures in the winter wonderland of Green Lane Park, where sledding enthusiasts can take on more than 25 miles of trails and hills.

The 400-foot slope at Fort Washington State Park is also a hot spot for thrill-seekers looking for the ultimate sledding hill. Bring your own sled and get ready for major thrills on snow throughout the park.

At Lorimer Park, in the suburbs of eastern Abington Township, go sledding among the park's 230-acre oasis of woods and meadows nestled below the treetops. The park is also a popular destination for cross-country skiing in the winter months.

Skiing and Snowboarding at Spring Mountain Adventures

From rookies to those more experienced on the slopes, Spring Mountain Adventures welcomes visitors to experience snowboarding and downhill skiing on the slopes of this popular Montgomery County destination.

Spring Mountain offers ski and snowboarding lessons throughout the winter season. And don't worry if you don't have the proper equipment, the folks at Spring Mountain Adventures can help! Helmets, skis, snow boots, snowboards, and more are available for daily rentals.

Area Parks

Area parks also welcome skiers to explore the trails and hills on their own offering something for all skill levels and elevations too. Some of the more popular area park ski destinations include Fort Washington State Park, home to a 1.7-mile loop trail, and Lower Perkiomen Valley Park, home to 107 acres of trails and woodlands perfect for exploring on skis.

Washington's Continental Army survived a cold winter in 1777-1778 at the Valley Forge National Historical Park, and visitors can explore the historical grounds during park hours via cross-country skiing and snowshoe trails throughout the cold season. To explore the historical exhibits, warm up after a day of skiing, or gather more history intel, visit the Montgomery County Visitors Center located in the Valley Forge National Historical Park.
