When COVID-19 hit, and we heard the vaccine was coming soon, the residents of Montgomery County (and everywhere else) waited for it with bated breath.

The County would announce if various ages or demographic groups were able to register for the vaccine, but that didn’t help those who couldn’t get out of the house or couldn’t register for it just yet.

Dr Mayank Amin ordered the vaccine and during the giant snowfall of 2021, Dr. Mak and his team of selfless volunteers began vaccinating their community at the locally owned Skippack Pharmacy.

When Dr. Mak began dressing as Superman, it was a way to make people smile during one of the worst times Montgomery County has ever seen.

He aimed to soften the jab of the vaccination needle to get people healthy during a cold and dark time, and his staff and volunteers jumped in whole-heartedly after him to continue helping every person in the county and beyond.

“No one was left behind,” Dr. Mak pointed out. “If someone couldn’t get to a clinic, I went to their house. If someone didn’t speak English, our team communicated. There was no one certain demographic we focused on—we treated everyone who needed us. It was a huge experience for everyone as we worked together to achieve more.”

Dr. Mak says his team and the volunteers of the Fight COVID Task Force are the real superheroes.

“When we saw the task ahead when we heard that huge snowfall was coming back in February and reached out to our patients, our friends, and our community; we saw we were not alone when we had over 100 people sign up within hours of us seeking volunteers. Each volunteer took ownership not only of their responsibilities but of caring for each patient that entered with love and care,” he explains.

Dr. Mak notes while many saw the efforts of his teams on the front-end, a lot of individuals were a part of the massive efforts behind the scenes at clinics across the county. Dr. Mak sends a special thank you to Rep. Joe Webster, Rep. Steve Malagari, Rep. Matt Bradford, Rep. Joe Ciresi and their teams for supporting them.

“They were instrumental in working with us behind the scenes to identify communities in need and working with the PA Department of Health to ensure vaccines kept coming to Skippack,” he explains. “We reflect on the time where the media announced that Montgomery County had one of the lowest vaccination rates and we weren't going to let that stay for long and flipped the switch to being one of the highest vaccinated counties in the State.”

Even though the terrifying atmosphere around COVID-19 is a bit calmer, Dr. Mak and his team are still working super hard each day to treat their patients, just like the superheroes that they are.
