Blue Bell
Summer is alive and well in Montco, and when you are looking for a new place to try out the freshest cuisine and creative cocktails, look no further than the cool little corner of Blue Bell.
Did you know Blue Bell was originally known as Pigeontown? It was named so after the large flocks of the now-extinct passenger pigeons that once gathered there. The town was renamed in 1840 after the historically prominent Blue Bell Inn, Wikipedia tells us. Who knew!?
Now Blue Bell is home to Montgomery County Community College, Meadowlands Country Club, and Blue Bell Country Club, boasting an 18-hole Arnold Palmer Signature golf course, as well as great shoppes and eateries. Wander through this little slice of Montgomery County, and seek out these hidden culinary gems.
Fresh Drinks
When the need for Mexican strikes, nothing is better than authentic Mexican cuisine from El Sarape. Try the Prix Fixe lunch menu with enchiladas, pepitos, or memelita, all filled with tasty fresh meats, beans, authentic sauces and Chihuahua cheese. Don’t miss the Arriba Chihuahua nachos with homemade corn tortillas or the Chile Relleno- a whole Poblano pepper filled with cheese and veggies and smothered in red or green tomatillo sauce.
The tequila menu is what El Sarape is all about- you can’t get more creative than this lineup; over 50 tequilas like Herradure Reposado and Patron Anejo add flair to your happy hour.
Fresh Bites
Blue Bell Inn serves modern American cuisine in an old-time setting- the building dates back to approximately 1743, serving local fare to weary travelers and hunters who ventured into the area. George Washington and his troops even stayed here.
These days, Blue Bell Inn offers private dining for events, and boasts a brunch bursting with goodness- try the Italian breakfast skillet, crab cake benedict, breakfast burrito, avocado toast, the raw bar or the bagel boards.
Fresh Grill
When you want pizza, what better place to go to get a slice than Panache. With its wood-fired brick oven, this authentic Napolitano pizza focuses on a crisp crust and delicious imported Bufala mozzarella to satisfy Montco’s pizza lovers. Also enjoy Sunday brunch, signature Italian dishes, daily specials and cocktails on the patio.
Fresh Brunch
The Farmer’s Daughter brunch at Normandy Farms is the stuff of dreams. Rustic décor, fabulous presentation, and delicious food from sandwiches to omelets to seafood. Begin with mimosas and freshly brewed coffee, bagels and spreads, French toast, Belgian waffles, pancakes, and enjoy the made-to-order omelet station. The carving station offers delectable meats, and the lunch-time area holds chicken salad, pasta salad, fruit and more. Be sure to check out the rustic ice-filled wagon covered with fresh oysters and shrimp.
End your visit on a sweet note with a chocolate fountain, cookies, brownies, rice crispie bites and the ooey-gooey s’mores station to toast-your-own with chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallows.
Fresh Fun
Also close to the Blue Bell area is Merrymead Farm- don’t miss this cozy little spot for amazing ice cream, fresh local and seasonal produce, nostalgic market finds, and more. Be sure to bring plenty of re-usable bags for goodies to take home from the Dairy Store like ice cream cakes, packed ice cream, milk, pies, local raw honey, homemade pot pies and meatballs. Then head outside for a peek at the goats, bunnies, peacocks, cows, and the giant pig! The farm animals and farm market are open to visitors year-round.
