The VFTCB’s May 15 Outing at the Philadelphia Cricket Club
Marks National Travel and Tourism Week

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA – The historic Philadelphia Cricket Club, the oldest club in the U.S., is the setting for the 2017 Montco Golf Classic, a day-long celebration of not only the game but also the tourism industry in Montgomery County, Pa. The annual event, organized by the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board (VFTCB) is part of the area’s celebration of National Travel and Tourism Week, an industry awareness campaign of the U.S. Travel Association.

Montgomery County courses dominate the PBJ list, earning nearly half the slots of distinction for courses in boroughs that include Horsham, Ambler, Lafayette Hill, Ardmore and Blue Bell. The Philadelphia Cricket Club has twice hosted the U.S. Open, and one of its designers, A.W. Tillinghast, was one of the most prolific architects in the history of the game. The quality of the course has caught the attention of countless evaluators who cite its playability, history and challenge. It most recently earned a spot on the Philadelphia Business Journal list of 25 best courses in the region.

“The Philadelphia Cricket Club was a natural choice for our second Montco Golf Classic,” says Mike Bowman, VFTCB President & CEO. “It speaks to our history, which is a big draw for visitors to Montgomery County. It makes excellent use of the great outdoors. It brings families and friends together in a beautiful setting. And it’s going to provide players at the 2017 Montco Golf Classic with a fantastic afternoon.”

The VFTCB’s marketing of golf positions it as a multiday experience, where players can face some of the best holes in the nation – as well as first-class hotels, eclectic dining, lively arts, welcoming trails, engaging history and adrenaline-fueled adventure.

A golf-centric page on the VFTCB website highlights weekend excursions in Montgomery County, Pa., listing not only the 54 courses but also the location of nearby hotels, restaurants, attractions and other tourism details.

The Montco Golf Classic at the Philadelphia Cricket Club has proven so popular that all foursomes on both courses have sold out. The Travel Rally that precedes it includes comments from all three Montgomery County Commissioners, as well as the debut of the VFTCB’s summer marketing campaign and a special reveal of the board’s creative approach to the Travel-Tourism Week’s theme: Faces of Travel.
