In 1889 John and Gertrude Pitcairn purchased 35 acres of rural farmland for their estate, eventually amassing 550 acres which included a dairy farm and orchards. Centrally located, the Cairnwood Farms were integral to community life in Bryn Athyn for many decades. Speaker Greg Jackson will explore the farming roots of Cairnwood Estate and the ways in which this agricultural legacy can inspire healthy, educational and sustainable practices for future generations.

Greg Jackson has worked in and around historic sites and museums for almost twenty years. He has held jobs as tour guide, educator, curator, historic site supervisor, college lecturer and has been the Bryn Athyn Historic Landmark District archivist at Glencairn Museum since 2008. As an active member of Friends of Bryn Athyn Farm organization, Greg is very interested in sustainable agriculture and raises sheep and poultry on what was once pasture land of Cairnwood Farm, occasionally hosting classes at the high school and college level.
