Nancy Bea Miller will talk about her life in art and writing

Artist and Author Nancy Bea Miller will talk about for her still life paintings and figurative work. She will discuss her work and career to date, making art despite the various struggles of life, that in her case includes a child born with profound disabilities, writing, and teaching.

She writes that "The richness of the world is almost overwhelming, crowding in at us from all sides and using every sense organ to make itself known. In my art I process this sensory overload by simplifying and focusing, by gathering up and presenting little stories people and objects tell as they relate to each other visually in space and time. When I paint or photograph, I create a picture of stillness pregnant with impending movement: a moment held in suspension, inviting the viewer's contemplation Unexpected or inexplicable details in an image may trip up the viewer's accustomed visual progression causing them to stop and look again. I love such 'speed bump' moments, which cause us to pause, to appreciate something new in a familiar situation. I like to remind myself of the profound un-knowableness of the known world."

Pottstown Area Artists Guild is sponsoring this talk. It will be held on Tuesday, April 16th, from 7 to 9 PM in the Boyer Gallery at The Hill School Center For The Arts at 760 Beech Street near the intersection of Beech and Sheridan Streets in Pottstown, PA. This event is free and open to the public.

Ms. Miller is an Adjunct Professor in Art History and Studio Arts at Montgomery County Community College and at Harcum College, and is on the CE Faculty at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and teaches at the Main Line Art Center. In addition to her career in art, she is a freelance writer whose work has appeared in numerous publications, most frequently in Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine and in her popular blog, Women in the Act of Painting. Ms. Miller has degrees from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the University of Pennsylvania. She is represented by Watson Gallery in Stonington, Maine, F.A.N.
