MCCC to host MamaCITA: A Mother's Cooperative in the Arts exhibition

Montgomery County Community College will host an exhibition, "Marginalized," by the artists' group, MamaCITA (A Mother's Cooperative in the Arts), from August 28 to October 4 at the Fine Arts Center Gallery, Central Campus, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell.

The meet-the-artists reception for MamaCITA: A Mother's Cooperative in the Arts will be held Wednesday, September 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the community.

MamaCITA is a community of professional artists who are all mothers, with a goal to support each member in reaching her artistic potential. The artists work in a variety of media including oil, photography, fabric, and sculpture. The group maintains a membership of approximately 20 in the Philadelphia area with auxiliary groups in the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions.

The theme of this exhibition is "marginalization." The artists challenged themselves to create pieces about marginalized groups, environments, art forms, and ideas. This exhibition features a wide range of pieces including painting, printmaking, and ceramics, as well as jewelry, collage, and installation pieces.

Galleries Director Patrick Rodgers is excited to provide a platform for artists with a unique perspective so that students and community members can learn from these diverse experiences.

"MamaCITA was formed because of a commonality of experience – they are all artists who are also mothers," he said. "Maintaining and working from those two standpoints is really unique, and our students and community can benefit from artwork brought out of that shared experience and collaborative environment."

For more information about the exhibition, contact Gallery Director Patrick Rodgers at 215-619-7349 or prodgers@mc3.edu. Like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MCCCArtsandCulture/ for information about upcoming performances and art exhibitions.

The Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-9:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Closed weekends.
