ROBYN
July 17
The Mann Center for the Performing Arts
Pop queen, Robyn, performs live at the Mann on July 17 in support of her long-awaited and critically acclaimed album, Honey.
If Robyn’s last album, Body Talk, was dressed up in robots and the mechanical, then Honey is warmer and sweeter, a sensual record about being human that starts from a place of loss and grief, and emerges ecstatically and joyfully into the light. “I danced a lot when I was making it,” says Robyn. “I found a sensuality and a softness that I don't think I was able to use in the same way before. Everything just became softer.” Of course “Honey” was going to be the title track. It’s everything Honey the album has turned out to be. “Honey, to me, was the feeling of sensuality and softness, and all the things I was growing in the studio, like a garden,” says Robyn. “This sweet place, like a very soft ecstasy. Something that's so sensual, and so good.”
Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.com, (800) 745-3000, or the Mann Box Office.
A NIGHT OF BERLIOZ WITH THE PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA
July 16
TD Pavilion @ The Mann Center for the Performing Arts
Berlioz single-handedly created the Romantic era in music with his blazing, amazing Symphonie fantastique. In this incredible piece, the orchestra becomes a storyteller, relating the hopes, loves, fears, and terrors of an artist who falls for a woman the first time he sees her, fantasizes about their life together, and suffers the terrors of the scaffold and a wild Witches’ Sabbath as retribution for killing the one he loved! The program opens with a bacchanalian tribute to La Dolce Vita that is possible only in Rome, a city both sacred and profane all at once and all the time. Soprano Elena Perroni returns for her third appearance in as many seasons, having wowed Mann audiences in 2017 and 2018. She sings the sweet and evocative songs for a summer’s night, love poems in many forms that bring out the gentle poet in the fiery Berlioz.
