We take a short train ride to Colebrookdale Village where we will be getting off the train, enjoying a snack and a beverage and listen to stories read to us by our guest reader of the Boyertown Library, children's librarian Lisa Rand!

Only very special guests will have the unique opportunity to enjoy an excursion to our picnic area at our Colebrookdale site where little ones will gather around for a special storytime read-aloud. 

After our story time, you may be able to choose a book from our "Free Library" provided by the Friends of the Boyertown Library to enjoy on the ride home!

This special excursion is geared towards fans ages 12 and under (or any fan of trains and a good book!)

This reading and train experience is about an hour.

Please Note: Our Colebrookdale Site DOES NOT have a ramp, we apologize, but for this expedition, we cannot accommodate wheelchairs.

CAMPFIRE EXPRESS

 “I’ve been working on the railroad, all the live long day….”  Create new memories with your family as you board Colebrookdale Railroad’s Campfire Express to our site “in the woods.” You’ll ride the train to the campfire site, roast some hot dogs and join in some camp songs.

We supply: Hot dogs & buns, roasting sticks, bug juice (beverage – but no bugs), campfire to roast your dog, song sheets, and song leader.

You supply: The energy and kids to create the experience. This is a camping experience without the sleepover.

We anticipate this experience to be a little over an hour in duration.

This excursion is family oriented with family friendly pricing!

Unable to visit our two National Historic Landmark ships, Cruiser Olympia and Submarine Becuna, during the day?  That's okay!  This summer you can visit both ships with our Extended Summer Hours on Thursdays-Sundays until 7 p.m. (last boarding is 6:15 p.m.).

HEX SIGNS: SACRED & CELESTIAL SYMBOLISM IN PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH BARN STARS

March 1 - November 3
Bryn Athyn Historic District
 

Explores themes of sacred and celestial imagery in the traditional arts of the Pennsylvania Dutch, with special emphasis on the decorated barns of Southeastern Pennsylvania. This exhibition, which features actual examples of barn stars, decorated objects, and related images, is guest curated  by Patrick Donmoyer, director of the Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center at Kutztown University. Donmoyer is the author of Hex Signs: Myth and Meaning in Pennsylvania Dutch Barn Stars (2013). The Heritage Center and Glencairn Museum will collaborate on a full exhibition catalog for the Glencairn exhibition.
