Also, set a June 25 reminder for Pennypacker Mills to attend the vintage base ball game, played according to 1864 rules.
LIVING HISTORY: IT'S A MAN'S WORLD
One week prior to Father's Day, Pottsgrove Manor puts a new perspective on pop. Historians demo the masculine pursuits of the 18th century, including colonial fishing, firearms, hunting and other paternal pastimes.
Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania
The dynamic Victorian garden of Morris Arboretum goes stylishly retro, reflecting the time before electricity and fossil fuels, when steam drove adventure and exploration. Art meets science in this engaging day outdoors.
FLAG DAY FESTIVITIES
Peter Wentz Farmstead
On the Sunday before Flag Day, Peter Wentz Farmstead celebrates Old Glory. Kids - and their parents - can discover the real story of the construction of the first U.S. flag, as well as current flag etiquette. Each participant will make a flag to take home.
MARCH-OUT OF THE CONTINENTAL ARMY
Valley Forge National Historical Park
Walk in the footsteps of the Continental Army along the historic trace road used by the army as they departed Valley Forge in June 1778 in pursuit of the British Army. This program at Valley Forge National Historical Park includes historical interpreters in Continental uniform and - hold your ears - firing of period muskets.
FATHER'S DAY BEEF 'N BEER TRAINS
Designed to cater to the special men in our lives, this is the perfect gift for dear old dad (or granddad!). Locally-brewed beverages will be served aboard the Colebrookdale Railroad, with a generous portion of beef, coleslaw, seasoned potatoes and dessert, all in the beauty of restored passenger rail cars that are a century old.
DARING DAD SCAVENGER HUNT
Norristown Farm Park
Bring dad to the Norristown Farm Park for a challenging nature scavenger hunt. He'll have to follow a series of clues to find items or answer questions. The first dad back with all requirements met is the winner, but to keep him from expending too much mental energy, families can help.
LANDMARKS IN LIGHTS
Bryn Athyn Historic District
This yearly event is one of the most uniquely beautiful evenings in all of Montgomery County. The three jewels of the Bryn Athyn Historic District - Glencairn Museum, Cairnwood Estate and the Bryn Athyn Cathedral - are lit from without and within, radiating in the dark of a velvety June evening. Take a tour, visit the tower or just wander the grounds and enjoy the illuminated grandeur.
TOO MANY GAMES
Greater Philadelphia Expo Center
Calling all gamers! This show at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center isn't playing around; it's a premier event highlighting video games, board games, CCGs and tabletop gaming. Too Many Games been known for its video game music concerts, chiptunes, industry panels, panels by famous YouTubers and brand new game releases for established consoles.
THE TRUCK STOPS HERE: MOBILE MADNESS
Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles
It's the second annual Food Truck Fair at the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles. The programming here is extensive, including unique bicycles, a history of food trucks and, of course, plenty of food to nibble on. One of the most popular displays is the museum's own 1958 Mister Softee ice cream truck, doling out summery treats.
34TH ANNUAL CANAL DAY
Lock 60 at Schuylkill Canal Park
Competitors at the Lock 60 Canal Joust, part of the annual Canal Day, will fiercely square off, encourage the cheering of their respective fans and go at it until one of them gets wet. Very wet. It's all in good fun, though, in a day that includes food, music, crafts, a horseshow tournament, a demonstration of the lock itself, a run and a water trail race.
