HOLIDAYS ON THE MAIN LINE
Christmas in the Suburbs
The communities along the Main Line include many stately homes that decorate to the hilt this time of year. Tucked among them are specialty shops and lively restaurants that make this part of Montgomery County a great place to celebrate the holidays.
HOLIDAY VENDOR SALE
Woman's Club of Bala Cynwyd
Aisles and aisles of handmade presents – from cute decorations to fuzzy warm mittens – are ready to be boxed, wrapped and given to special family and friends. In these days of mass-produced and hastily assembled, the care put into creating these items make them standouts under anyone’s tree.
The start of Suburban Square’s holiday extravaganza is a tree-lighting that also features balloon artists and face painting. The giant tree within the Main Courtyard will flicker to life, guaranteeing oohs and ahhs.
10TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Bryn Mawr Film Institute
For some, the holidays aren’t complete without at least one major gala event. The tenth anniversary of the Bryn Mawr Film Institute provides a great reason to dress to the nines and enjoy a Hollywood-style party. The guest of honor is Academy Award-winning actress Lee Grant.
SANTA COMES TO TOWN
Like the Whos of Whooville, the families of Bryn Mawr will gather around the community tree, sing a few carols and welcome Santa as he arrives atop a fire truck. Sweets for the evening are – what else? – cookies and cocoa.
Downtown Ardmore transforms into a holiday marketplace during the second annual Cricket Cringle celebration. Cricket Avenue and the nearby streets will home to an open-air holiday market, the area's best food trucks, choirs and musicians, and more. The event runs Friday night from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
FAMILY FUN DAY
The focus of the Farmer’s Market shifts completely to the little ones for this afternoon of family bonding time. One of the highlights is the session on decorating (and eating!) cupcakes. Kids can also make seasonal cards to be delivered to members of the U.S. military.
NARBERTH DICKENS FESTIVAL
The streets of Narberth are transformed to 1840s London, and the noted personalities of A Christmas Carol are out and about. Entertainment includes carriage rides, crafts, carolers, dancers, musicians, ballet performances and a scavenger hunt for kids.
HANUKKAH CELEBRATION & MENORAH LIGHTING
Chag Chanukkah Sameach! In other words, “Happy Hanukkah!” At sunset, the Main Courtyard embraces both the solemnity and the celebration of Hanukkah with a menorah lighting and program.
LIVE ICE CARVERS
A crew of talented sculptors – armed with chisels, picks and probably a chainsaw or two – turn blocks of ice into magical holiday works of art, right before your eyes.
